Polka Dots: It’s an Illness

I have a crazy, sick addiction to polka dots. And by that I mean that I own shirts, pants, shorts, shoes, and headbands in said pattern and when I say shirts, I mean over ten, potentially over fifteen but I’m scared to count and see the actual results. Also my bedding is polka dotted. (By this point in the post I’m sure you’re thinking that I’m crazy and my grammar is seriously questionable.) Anywho, I think the fact post that I did yesterday made me feel like oversharing but this is going somewhere I swear. To me, polka dots are perfect for any situation and go with anything. They are classy without screaming, I’m trying really hard to look like I’m classy with a c and not a k if you catch my drift. I feel like every girl should have an adorable polka dot shirt that goes with anything from a pencil skirt to skinny jeans and transitions from day to night. It’s all about the basics and what is more basic than a shirt with dots right? Polka dots are the best way to take an outfit from boring to fabulous in one simple piece. Whether it’s tops, bottoms, shoes, or accessories, you are sure to make a statement!

The Facts of Me

Today I am linking up with Whitney at I Wore Yoga Pants to Work, mainly because I do wear yoga pants to work (a lot), but also because I figured someone may like reading some random facts about my life. Maybe? I love learning about other people by creeping on some blogs so let’s send the stalking both ways, shall we? Here we go…
The Facts of Me

I love food- I love cooking it, I love eating it, and I’m impartial to the whole cleanup process. Chances are if you hang around here long enough, you will see some recipes that I create in my oh so spacious dorm room. Also, if you follow me on instagram you are likely bombarded on a daily basis by food pics.

I am allergic to onions- I figure this flows from the loving food. This is a recent, yet tragic development that occurred three years ago out of the blue and makes me an extremely sad panda. Mostly because I cannot eat onion dip of French Onion Soup.

I went to the same school for twelve years- My parents decided that private school was the way to be early on and so began my long and interesting relationship with my elementary/middle/high school. Basically I have known everyone I graduated with since they had bowl cuts (fun times).

I’m a nanny- I have been nannying the same family for a year and a half. It’s been real crazy but I love it.

Whenever I come home from college, I must eat at Pei Wei– My friends make fun of me but I dare you to eat Pei Wei and not want to go back. I love Chinese food so it’s a must.

I have a weird thing with chicken- I love chicken, don’t get me wrong but dark meat chicken scares me to my core. Hence the Pei Wei, they only use white meat. I also am constantly convinced that my chicken is undercooked/diseased/possessed. My family always jokes that they will buy me a chicken thermometer but they still haven’t come through (I know some of you read this). Also have an issue with bananas because they are disgusting.

I can’t read directions- This is definitely something that I learned from my dad. Essentially, if I can’t push all the buttons and make something somehow work magically without knowing any steps or being able to recreate it, I’m not interested. Ikea is not my friend.

I am obsessed with Target- I could literally spend hours wandering the aisles and spend all my money when I just went for one thing. I love everything there and I’m not sorry about it.

I drive a mom car- I drive a Honda CR-V since my family assumed it would be the only car safe enough for my attention problems. Everyone in my circle of family and friends refers to my car as “Soccer Mom,” but her real name is Audrey. My family names cars (fact within a fact).

I am addicted to sarcasm- 90% of what comes out of my mouth is sarcasm and you either like it or you hate it. Most people just don’t understand sarcasm, tragically for them.

My dad has insane child insurance on me– I probably shouldn’t announce this on the internet but I think it is the funniest thing ever. Mostly because if I get abducted, my family gets put up in a five star hotel and gets to fly around in helicopters. Totally normal right? Also, if you ever bring it up to my mom, she cries. It’s really funny (sorry Mom).

I am loyal to a fault- I can make fun of my family and friends all day long but if someone else tries to, watch out. I love my friends like family and my family is the center of my crazy life. Chances are if you mess with either of them I will not be a happy lady but if you are nice to them, I will love you endlessly!

Hope you enjoyed this random collection of ideas!

2013-Did You Miss Me?

I’m making my foray back into blogger land after a long but necessary break. Between finals and working, there was no time for my favorite little spot on the internet and that left a hole in my whale-shaped heart. But, I’m back and ready to party. One of the main reasons that you do not see posts from me every day is that I’m not one to just post about something because I have to. I’m not going to write about what I did today if nothing happened, because honestly who cares? So, it’s all about quality over quantity over here peeps. On that note, another year has already come and gone. I feel like that one went way too fast? 2012 definitely had its ups and downs and left some great memories along the way. I finished my sophomore year and started my junior year in college and grew even closer to the hive-inducing graduation date. I spent the whole summer working in Nantucket for an awesome company and I loved it. And most importantly, I spend time with my family and crazy friends. They’re only crazy because they’ve stuck around with me this long (shoutout to you loves!) But in the end, I could not be more excited for 2013. I am declaring it the year of Katie and with some amazing things in the works, I think it will be great! I turn 21 in March, start my senior year of college, hopefully find an internship and place to live over the Summer, and plan to make lots of crazy memories along the way. I can’t wait to get this year started and make 2013 my bitch. Let’s go!

Cheers and hugs,

Fall Breakfasts: Ode to Refrigerator Oats.

Because I like to wait until the last possible second to wake up in the morning, I often don’t have a ton of time to eat breakfast or really do anything besides make my coffee. While I was reading some blogs and perusing the internet a few weeks ago, I saw a few recipes for refrigerator oats and I was definitely intrigued. Then I saw that one of them had Pumpkin Pie in the title and I was obviously sold. It’s Fall so that means I can put pumpkin in anything and everything that I eat right? Right. I loosely based the recipe off of this but first of all this would have made 800 servings and I needed two and second of all the liquids seemed super off balance to me but what do I know? Anywho, pumpkin pie refrigerator oats take one:

Pumpkin Pie Overnight Oats

Modifications: I don’t have cute mason jars lying around my dorm room so we used tupperware, sorry to disappoint. I also didn’t use Chia seeds because again I don’t keep that stuff around my room and I wasn’t about to go out and locate some random seeds. Sorry, friends. I made them in two separate containers, so this recipe is for two small servings which I doubled. Hope that makes sense?

1/2 cup oats (I used Quaker quick cooking)

around 2/3 cup of vanilla almond milk

1/4 cup of Greek yogurt (my favorite is vanilla bean but we just had plain which wasn’t my fave)

I squirted a bunch of honey in but it was probs like 1-2 tablespoons

Also around 1 teaspoon of cinnamon but use as much or as little as you want

Then you shake it all up until it is well combined

Lastly, add 1/4 cup of pumpkin puree and then mix it and stick it in the fridge. Leave it overnight and by morning it will be delicious! It tastes like Fall in a tupperware? Yum!

Then because it’s never fun enough to stop at one, last night I made apple cinnamon overnight oats.

I decided that because a) I needed our other container of Greek yogurt for dinner and b) I don’t like the taste of plain yogurt, I would just add more milk (1 full cup) and then slice up one small apple for each and up the cinnamon. DON’T LEAVE THE YOGURT OUT. It gets super runny and then it just is a weird consistency. However, the apple cinnamon was a super yummy combo so do make this variation as well. This was the before pic, but honestly the after was pretty similar.

Hope you enjoy this take on Fall desserts for breakfast!

Friday Five.

For my first Friday Five in what seems like foreverrrr, I decided to kick it up. And what better way than to include the family responsible for the downfall of modern society. That’s right, we’re talking about the Kardashians.

1) Here we go. White the Kardashians are just ridiculous, their Nicole by OPI line cannot be ignored. I love some of their jewel tones for Fall and everyone knows I can’t stay away from a good nail polish. However, when someone asks you what color your polish is and you say casually Khloe had a little lam-lam, don’t expect them to take you seriously. But then again, I don’t really take life seriously ever so why start with nail polish. If all else fails, just lie and say you don’t know the name.

2) Trader Joe’s. There are so many reasons that could take up an entire blog post on their own but this week, it’s their lactose free, gluten free hazelnut coffee cream. Because my college refrigerator is possessed by the devil and likes to make everything go bad in half the time, this stuff is my savior. Plus since it’s lactose free and gluten free, I feel like it may be a little better for me than that scary coffee-mate nonsense. If it’s not then don’t tell me, I will continue to live in my bubble thank youuuuu.

3) Which brings me to Starbucks pods for my Keurig. They’re the best, hands down. I drink at least one every morning on my way to class and then tote around my empty cup and act sad until I can refill it later on with some other highly caffeinated beverage. My personal fave is the Veranda blend but they’re all good!

4) The weather this week has seriously been to die for. It’s probably in anticipation of the giant ass hurricane that’s coming next week (what the what?!) but anywho, I’ll enjoy it while I can. I’m heading to school to watch my munchkins play in their soccer games today and I can’t wait to hang out with some Starbucks, some fall leaves, and cute little kiddies playing soccer. This is how I spend my Fridays these days. And let’s just talk about how gorgeous the road I walk on to work was the other day!

5) The fact that my hair now takes ten minutes to curl or straighten instead of fifty five hours. I chopped off somewhere between five and seven inches (excuse the vague measurement I really have no clue) and now it is real short but it will grow back eventually. I feel a little bad for the poor girl who cut my hair as I started having heart palpatations when she just nonchalantly chopped off HALF MY HAIR without even flinching. But if you know me, you know I change my hair on the reg. It’s also super dark which my friends and family will hate (sorry friendssss). Last time I died my hair dark, my dad asked me when I was going to get it fixed aka make it blonde again. So if that’s any indicator, Thanksgiving is gonna be REAL fun. Good thing I like it anyways!

Happy Friday friends and I hope you all have an amazing weekend! Stay safe if you are in the path of the Hurricane!

Boots, Scarves, and Sweaters!

First of all, I have never been so overwhelmed in my life as I have been these past few months. I am not here to whine and talk about how hard my life is because it isn’t but time management is not really my jam so we can just talk about a hard lesson learned in a quick amount of time. But anywho, I have really missed blogging and being able to express myself creativelyso I am going to make an effort to come back to blogging and not just tweet incessantly which is actually getting out of hand. So in the spirit of Fall and shedding the old blah blah blah, here is my foray back into the blogging world. Enjoy!

Fall Favorites

Like many people, Fall is most definitely my favorite season of the year. The weather is perfect, the leaves are beautiful, and the food is the best. In honor of the best season all year, here are my Fall staples.

Riding Boots

Move-In Insanity.

It seems like I’ve been gone foreverrrrrr, I know. In the past week I have been on five planes, to four Targets, in three states, with two cars to move-in, to move in to my little apartment. As you can see, it’s been full on insanity in these parts. Anyone who has moved into or out of dorms know how it is full-on craziness especially with my family who don’t like to do anything on time, EVER. Now that I am finally moved in, I will get back to regular blogging I promise. But until then, I will practice the eight foot leap from the floor to my bed (so tall so I can shove all of my junk under it). Here are some pictures from our first football game (rough) to hold you over!

Friday Five.

First of all, sorry y’all that I’ve been totally MIA! My sister, her friends, and my roommate have all been here hanging out with me over the past week so that I wasn’t in this big old house by myself (thanks loves!). We had tons of fun hanging out on Nantucket and working, beaching, and eating (mostly). Without further ado, in an attempt to return to blogging, here is my Friday Five.

1) Since I have been getting in the Fall mood lately, I bought this blazer online to wear to class, work, etc. $25 for an adorable blazer? I think yes.

2) Cutest note cards EVER from kWa. I am obsessed with them. Who wants a letter :)?

3) My new perfume from Nantucket Natural Oils. It is made from natural oils instead of alcohol so it lasts way longer plus no one else has it! Love!

4) Fun times and ice cream (obvi) with the bestie! Going to miss the juice bar so much.

5) And last but not least. This. Every SINGLE night. I know, I’m a lucky girl.

Have a great weekend!

Obligatory Olympics Post

I’ll start this one off with some good ecards.

Funny Sports Ecard: Watching Olympic gymnasts always reminds me of how lazy I am in bed.

Funny Sports Ecard: America will always be #1 at writing moderately funny tweets about the Olympics.

Now that that’s out of the way, I have never been that crazy about the Olympics since I am not really that old and therefore haven’t been around for many.  However, for this year’s Olympics, I have spent approximately fifty hours with my butt parked on the bed watching gymnastics, swimming, or some other weird sport that is not nearly as cool (table tennis I’m talking to you). Also Archery? Most boring thing to watch ever. Basically I have loved this year’s Olympics and it’s only half way over! What I have not enjoyed about this year’s Olympics is the fact that the Wall Street Journal emails me EVERY result before I see it along with Twitter inevitably ruining it as well. However, that doesn’t stop me from watching floor exercises and white-knuckling my way through every beam routine. Hello, serious injuries to every important part of the body (ahem). Not going to lie, their insane bodies do make me jealous (as I eat a pretzel rod). Sadly, I missed the entire opening ceremonies due to an obscene plane delay (thanks ACK Airport) but I heard that they were amazing and I rewatched some highlights slash lived vicariously through everyone tweeting about it. Is everyone else loving the Olympics as well?

Family is Good for the Soul

This weekend I went to visit the extended fam in Jersey for some quality time with the crew and to meet my cousin’s presh baby (cousin once removed? who knows). I love spending time with my big, outspoken, obnoxious, and insane family. There’s nothing better.

It was my amazing Grandmom’s 81st birthday. She’s amazing, seven kids, sixteen grandkids, and one great-grandkid.

Misbehaving after Mass. Clearly I am a bad influence.

I mean what is cuter than a smiley little baby?

Most of the girl cousins. Clearly we are a little girl heavy.

Love my mom and sissy.
